I began market research in May and found an opportunity in the market in September. In those five months in the midst of the pandemic I spent time researching the competitive landscape on ProductHunt and read case studies of Spotify, Apple Music, and SoundCloud. I also collected data through random sample surveys and focus groups. 

In the past 5 months I’ve:

Designed and iterated my wireframe with over 40 screens and conducted numerous focus groups
Designed my landing page which is currently being updated 
Secured the domains wavepoolapp.com and wavepool.co
Created a detailed year expense timeline pushing into my first round
Am working out the engagement letter with my lawyer
Am reviewing over the contract with my development firm
Have had interest from a few investors

Currently we have everything lined up and mapped out to start production and launch within the next 9 months we just need to close our round.

How far are you in your process and what are some milestones you have experienced?

When I came up with the concept for my platform, I wanted to go with a minimalist theme. I love how so many companies play on words and have a name that represents them. With our product, we are unleashing a new wave of artists together (in a pool) hence the name Wavepool. 

Modern music streaming platforms limit social interaction between artists and listeners, which is something we stress importance of. Wavepool serves as both the library and the librarian, as we provide a personalized listening experience on the user side while creating value on the artist side. We believe that no machine can tell you what you like better than yourself. Using Wavepool will allow users to find undiscovered artists and follow them on their journey to stardom.

Why the name Wavepool and what makes you different from competition and other players in the industry?

I see Wavepool shifting the paradigm of music discovery. When we think of music, people tend to listen to the same thing over and over again. I deem the reason behind this is the “Amazon Prime” way meaning it’s at your fingertips and there is no wait. Mainstream music is pushed up since it produces money for these larger corporations making it difficult for the underground/undiscovered artist making it into the top charts. 

Over time I see an opportunity to host both mainstream and undiscovered talent on one platform without any overlap. My goal is to give the next generation of superstars a platform to be heard easily and discovered quickly and that starts with Wavepool.

What is your vision for Wavepool?

My CMO runs an influencer marketing agency with over 200 influencers and a collective audience of over 80M between TikTok and Instagram. He was able to generate 200k+ campaign clicks and just shy of 1/4 million in revenue in his first year. He has worked with apps such as: Taimi, Calm, Wink, Fitness Coach, and Yubo.

As for my development team my CTO is a Babson Alumni with his own firm who I have developed a close relationship with over the following months. Everyone on his team has almost or over a decade of experience. 


Tell me more about your team?

When I turned 12 I began listening to a lot of rap music and was immersed into this underground culture from reselling sneakers for over 5 years. I fell in love with finding the undiscovered artist and being the kid who showed all my friends the underdogs. It wasn’t until last May that the idea hit me when I was listening to a song by SASH, an upcoming rapper out of New York, and shared it with a bunch of my close friends that made me realize the value this could provide in such a tough industry to breakthrough in.
